Careers have a way of convincing people that they define life. We use them to measure success. And that seems reasonable. Being gainfully employed is a noble thing. Measuring offers a window to our progress.

But being gainful is more than an accumulation of wealth. Relationships, spirituality, self-awareness, emotional growth, physical health, sustainability, and learning are part of a strong life equation.

So, we at SC Staffing & Consulting are taking the start of the new year to remind ourselves that our day job focuses on recruiting, staffing, and job placement, and that each day we do this to help people because that is our primary mission. And to be successful, we need to tangibly attend to the things that matter to the whole and complete person. Can we help you to be gainful?

The below excerpt from “The Desiderata” by Max Ehrmann, has helped us to focus on creating balance in our lives and careers.

“Take kindly the counsel of the years
gracefully surrendering the things of youth.

Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.

But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.

Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.

Beyond a wholesome discipline
be gentle with yourself.

You are a child of the universe
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.

And whether or not it is clear to you
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be.

And whatever your labors and aspirations
in the noisy confusion of life,
keep peace in your soul.

With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams
it is still a beautiful world.

Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.”
